- Sono state numerose le ipotesi che si sono avvicendate dalla metà degli anni Settanta, su chi fosse il misterioso quanto prezioso informatore dei due giornalisti ai quali Hollywood nel 1976 dedicò un film vincitore di quattro Oscar.
- Nulla è risultato circa l’identità dell’informatore perché tutti i giornalisti indicati come testi si sono avvalsi del segreto professionale.
